Conscious Tourism
Conscious Tourism is a movement to rethink the way that travel affects guests, hosts and the communities which constitute the resources of our industry.
What does this mean in plain English? Here at Corona Rubia we firmly believe that ethical cultural exchanges make the world a better place. And we define our ethics through our SUGAR criteria.
In Vieques specifically this means caring to know more about the rich identity of this island; Taino, Spanish, African, European, runaway slave, pirate, profiteer, cattle rancher, farmer, fisherman, soldier, DEMILITARIZATION, DECONTAMINATION, DEVOLUTION, DEVELOPMENT.
Along with the largest wildlife preserve in the Caribbean as well as the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world, Vieques still claims one of the most impoverished communities in the US. We ask that wherever you go, be an ambassador. Whomever you meet, be of assistance. Empathy meeting exploration.
So open your hearts and get out there!
